Tired of doing the same old same old routine for date nights? How about something completely different, something that will show you a bit more of your partner’s interests?Â
Over the past few months, we have tried a variety of activities. A few were more geared towards his tastes, others toward mine. Consequently, we began valuing the experience of doing and trying new things together. As well as getting insight into one another’s interests. Both of us found it to be a lot more fun than we had expected.
Therefore, we have listed some of our favourite activities we’ve done in Singapore as a couple. Besides, it doesn’t matter if you’re a crafty person (like me) and your partner is a sports enthusiast (like my hubby), or vice versa, it might just be more fun than you thought so why not try.Â
So here is our list of things to do as a couple in Singapore…Â
Pottery at a Dragon Kiln
You know the romantic 1990s movie Ghost, with Demi Moore & Patrick Swayze. They definitely made pottery romantic. Okay, it is a bit of a sad movie, but when I hear ‘Unchained Melody”, I think of pottery.Â
So for a different couple’s activity, why not try your hand at both building and working on the potter’s wheel during a pottery introduction workshop at Thow Kwang Pottery Jungle. Moreover, at the end you walk away with your hand crafted cups and bowls.
Did you know?
Thow Kwang Pottery Jungle is the oldest surviving dragon kiln in Singapore built in the 1940s, owned by the Tan family since 1965. If it hasn’t been fired, you can even explore the inside of the dragon kiln.

Tiger Brewery tour & Beer appreciation sessionÂ
Probably not one of the first activities you would have thought to be on our list of things to do as a couple in Singapore, but this was a different date night ‘outing’.Â
So you know that the iconic Tiger beer is locally produced, but did you know that you can visit the massive Tiger Brewery?Â
Well, you can. Firstly the 45 min tour starts with the history of Tiger Breweries, followed by a walk through part of the factory, whilst explaining the whole process from start to packaging. Lastly, to complete the day, which is probably the part most look forward to, the beer appreciation session at the Tiger Tavern. Here you get to sample a few of the different brews manufactured at the factory. Some of the brews to choose from are, of course, Tiger, as well as ABC Extra Stout, Heineken, Archipelago, Guinness Draught, and a few others. Tasting is only for those above above the legal drinking age, and remember – Do not drink and drive. Be responsible.
Did you know?
Tiger Breweries started their journey in 1932 with a refreshing beer for the tropical climate.

Kayak down a riverine
Get outdoors and explore the waterways of Singapore with Kayak Asia. Enjoy a few hour kayak adventure down one of Singapore’s last riverines or explore Singapore’s islands. Â
At first I did not think it was 100% my idea of fun. However, I really enjoyed exploring, and I have to confess, I did let hubby row a bit more at parts. 🙂Â
Our favourite, kayaking down Sungei Simpang with Kayak Asia, we started a leisurely paddle out into the ocean from Sembawang Park and down one of Singapore’s last riverines to one of the few mangrove forests left in Singapore, only accessible by tour.
Did you know?
Back in the 1820’s mangroves covered roughly 13% of Singapore land area today; there is only about 0.5% left. (roots.gov.sg) This is due to various reasons, but one remains evident: shrimp and prawn farming. Another reason I was not aware of was the wood was used as charcoal.

High tea my dear?
Singapore is rather famous for its spectacular and posh high teas, an activity that has grown more popular than brunch, I would even say. And as we know, Singapore is rather passionate about food, so instead of a dinner date, why not indulge in delectable teatime treats over a cup of tea or even champers.Â
You might find it challenging to choose one place as there are various options, so here are our three favourites, and they are all somewhat different from each other. Spend an elegant afternoon enjoying a classical high tea in The Grand Lobby at the heritage Raffles Hotel.Â
Fancy a sky-high, high tea? Then book at SKAI on the 70th level of the Swissôtel, The Stamford, with Japanese touches such as the cherry blossom cake stand.Â
Lastly, Alley on 25 at Andaz Singapore serves your high tea treats in a picnic basket, and I love the Asian inspired high tea with lobster kueh to Ondeh Ondeh cake.
Did you know?
Afternoon tea and high tea is served at different times; afternoon tea is generally between 2-5 pm, and high tea is from 5-7 pm.Â
How to contact them, Raffles Hotel Grand Lobby, SKAI, & Alley on 25.Â
Get outside – go on a HikeÂ
Why not head out into the great outdoors, explore a new area or revisit an old-time favourite. Definitely one of our favourite things to do as a couple here in Singapore. For example, some of ours are the Botanical Gardens for a leisurely stroll through the Orchid garden followed by a picnic or coffee at Cluny Court.
Wanting to get in touch with nature head over to Pulau Ubin for a more rugged day out. Finishing the day with a fresh coconut plus steamed fish at Season Live Seafood. Additionally, why not try bird-watching at Sungei Buloh wetlands, one of Singapore’s four reserves. Settle in one of the pods with your binoculars and spot the migrating birds that visit Singapore from September to March.Â

You can spot crocodiles at Sungei Buloh wetlands.

Daydreaming on a yachtÂ
Be it for a few hours or a night, but time on a yacht can have your imagination drift far off as if you were floating around on the Mediterranean. Dream on, right, hehe? But let a girl dream.
Indeed, nothing beats spending a night on a yacht, away from the hustle and bustle, with the ocean rocking you into a deep, calm serenity. We think it is a great idea to recharge after a busy time and imagine a bit.Â
There are many to choose from in Sentosa, but we found Jo’ place at Sentosa (currently at Punggol Marina), and you can search for them on Facebook.Â
Did you know?Â
The term feeling blue has its origins in sailing. When a ship loses their captain, they would hoist blue flags, the crew mourning. Sad = feeling blue.Â

Take your date night to new heights – Rock climbingÂ
Placing your trust (or rope instead) in your partner’s hands while you climb vertically up against a wall, well, that is something a bit different to do as a couple. There might not be any high cliffs or mountains in Singapore, but we have Climb Central. Easily located at Funan, Novena and Sports Hub, hence perfect for a quick afternoon outing.
They have an array of heights from 4m to 16m and various difficulty routes. Climbing methods range from placing your trust in your partner using the top rope system or going on your own with the auto-belays. Another favourite area I was keen to try, bouldering.Â

Activities like rock climbing help develop your problem solving skills as well as focus. Mmm, interesting.

Fun dye workshop- getting your hands blue
And lastly, something completely different on our list of things to do as a couple in Singapore, shibori dye workshop. We did it for our fourth wedding anniversary (linen = traditional gift, so it made sense). This was so much more fun than we anticipated. Never would I have guessed that my hubby would enjoy it to such an extent. The planning and organisation of the shibori patterns were what interested him most, then the process of dye that had to oxidise to achieve the correct colour. So crafty became slightly more sciencey. Plus the outcome, we have our personalised gifts for each other. Â (gloves are provided so no need to get blue hands like I did)
Did you know?
Shibori dye technique originates from Japan, and natural indigo is used for the blue colour.Â
