While sitting and adoring the light play on the wave as they break on the beach while you await your dinner. Casa Del Mar, a spectacular beach getaway in Langkawi, a small island of the coast of Malaysia. The perfect setting to celebrate my husband’s birthday. With unique architecture, and boasting with suites stepping out into their own private gardens and direct beach access.

With a swift check-in, the staff took us around for a quick property tour. The staff not only friendly and helpful but remembered our names and what our regular orders were during our stay.

With a few room options from standard rooms to direct beach access rooms, we opted for the latter. The spacious and comfortable beach suite consists of a decent size lounge area, wifi, TV, DVD player, speakers, homemade cookies, fresh milk, and fresh fruits. A well-stocked minibar, with favourite items like the little sparkling wines. Daily the delicious homemade cookies, as well as the milk and fruit, were replenished. Bing an absolute coffee addict the coffee machine was a big hit, tons better than those instant packets you receive at other places. The door opens up to a small private garden with an area to lounge in the sun.

Bathroom

In need of some TLC? You can soak your stress away in the comfortable bathtub with fragrantly spiced bath salts. And if that is not enough open the wooden sliding panel and enjoy the stunning view of the ocean while sipping a glass of sparkling. The divinely scented cinnamon cream is amazing and can be purchased at the Spa. Probably the only downside to the bathroom would be that the showerhead that was too low as we are quite tall. But who would want to shower if you can soak in a bathtub?

Attention to detail

Casa del Mar really pays attention to the details, firstly the welcome pack on the bed, which consisted of a box of chocolates, a bag of potpourri, a welcome letter and congratulations card to my husband on his birthday.

Each room had complimentary scented face sprays, perfect to be used and stay refreshed during a day by the pool or on an outing.

They are prepared and have the comfort of their guests in mind, even with the pillow selection. They not only have the few standard pillows on the bed. But a note on your bedside table will inform you as to the four various types of pillows and where to find them within the room. As a result, you are sure to find a pillow to your liking and a good nights rest.

Turndown service

One of the most detailed turndown services I have yet experienced. After exploring the shops on the main street running along Cenang beach in the afternoon, we came back to soft music and aircon in our room. Furthermore, an incense candle burner was lit and filled the whole space with the smell of citrus. Slippers were set out next to the bed which too was prepared, pillows fluffed and a coconut bowl engraved with a good night message was laid down on the opened duvet. The bowl contained the weather forecast for the following day, remote control, as well as a fragranced bookmark from the spa. On the bedside table was a bottle of water plus a glass. Towels were hung out, ready for us to use in the bathroom.

The facilities and activities

In the quint library, you can help yourself to the coffee machine throughout the day. Not in the mood for the beach, you can borrow a DVD from their wide collection to watch in your room. However, if you don’t want to miss out on your gym routine, don’t fret as they have a great gym setup and even a piano for those who might want to hit a few notes.

During the day we spent most of our time relaxing next to the pool or beach, and even here we were impressed by their exceptional service. Ever so often were offered fresh fruit juice or water almost every hour (over and above the cocktails we ordered) and cool towels.

With a wide variety of dishes to choose from at breakfast, you are sure to find something to your liking. No matter where you find yourself throughout the day, be it in your room or at the pool, you can order snacks and meals from the kitchen.

Around sunset, the tables were moved and arranged on the beach, creating a unique setting for dinner. Want to turn up the romance by a notch then book the exclusive “La Luna dinner”. They only offer one booking per night. Your table will be on your own ‘private’ section of the beach. Complete with all the bells and whistles from candles, to rose petals, and sparkling wine. The perfect setting for either staring into your loved one’s eyes or watching the moon rise and sunset while enjoying your three-course meal. One of our highlights.

Where is Casa Del Mar & how to get there

Langkawi is an island off the west coast of Malaysia. With a short flight from both Singapore and Kuala Lampur and the hotel situated only about 10 minutes from the airport, rather convenient. As a result, you will not have to worry about spending to much time in transit and being stuck in traffic on your holiday.
